Can running help heroin withdrawals?
As we all know when a person run's they eventually fall into a euphoric state called "Runners High", which during this time your body releases endorphins and it calms the body to the point where you feel like you could run forever. Well anybody that has an avid running regime like myself know that when you don't run you feel semi guilty or don't have that same level of alertness as you would after you finish running for the day. WELL, scientists at Tufts University designed a program in which they divided 44 male rats and 40 female rats into four groups. One group was housed inside an exercise wheel, and another group had none. Each group was divided again, either allowing access to food for only one hour per day or for 24 hours per day. they were then all given Naloxone, a drug used to counteract an opiate overdose and produce immediate withdrawal symptoms and they changed the amounts the ran and ate over the next couple of wees. The active rats displayed a significantly higher level of withdrawal symptoms than the inactive rats on the dependency for the drug when they were deprived of food and/or running showing the benefit of running in the active rats to ease the withdrawal symptoms of food than the starved rats.. So therefore the scientists; in short, concluded that after weeks of having these particular rats on a strict running schedule compared to the ones that weren't, noticed an increased withdrawal symptoms for those active rats. Scientist are now hoping that they can come up with some short of treatment program for habitual drug users implementing running to absolve the withdrawal stresses with running by means of increasing endorphins and dopamines levels in the brain, instead of using clinical drugs that could be potentially harmful to the person.

To Drink or Not To Drink?

Do you like to drink? Because I like to enjoy my frosted cold beverages every now and again. I mean hey cmon its a great way to relax , be social, and just enjoy life.....especially college. But with all of the negative side effects are there good ones? Well guess what! I found that I actually already do! I generally run and workout everyday except for the day or two I take off. But I've found that I always go for a nice run after a long night out, to work out that extra "sweat" I gained from the night before. So therefore can we conclude that our extra curricular activities as college students are actually making the people that workout in a better living standard than the ones that don't?
A recent study found that people who drink regularly seem to exercisee more often than teetotalers, and those who average more than a drink or two a day may be the most active, a new study suggests.
Using data from a government health survey of U.S. adults, researchers found that in general, the amount of time people devoted to exercise tended to inch up along with the number of alcoholic drinks they had each month. Compared with abstainers, those considered heavy drinkers — at least 46 drinks in the past month for women, and 76 or more for men — exercised for an average of 20 minutes more per week. Meanwhile, moderate drinkers — which included women who had 15 to 45 drinks in a month, and men who had 30 to 75 — got 10 extra minutes of exercise each week.

So would you look at that! We have gained a new found motivation to get outside after a long night out and further our physical fitness. Whether it's because you feel guilty about all of the suds you drank the night before, you just felt like running, or you've come to the conclusion it is the only thing that will get rid of your hangover. It doesn't matter! Because you are still working on you fitness. And that my friends, is always a good idea.
